As most people in the industry know, dedicated golf academy facilities have been the backbone of my career as a golf instructor, both in my time at Sea Island (Georgia) Resort and now at the PGA TOUR’s Performance Center at TPC Sawgrass – which just reopened after an extensive expansion and upgrade of the previous practice facility. I’m a huge supporter and advocate for clubs to incorporate this amenity on property, because they benefit not only the course itself, but also the players who keep in in business. When a golfer’s game improves, they want to play more golf.
Home to the PGA TOUR Headquarters, THE PLAYERS Championship, two great golf courses, and one particularly famous Island Green, TPC Sawgrass is to many the pinnacle of the game. With a stunning clubhouse, a great restaurant and bar, museum-quality examples of golf history adorning nearly every wall, and local amenities that include some of the best dining, shopping and beaches in North Florida, it’s no wonder that the club is a dream destination for nearly everyone who’s ever wielded a club. Now fans have one more reason to visit, as the new PGA TOUR’s Performance Center at TPC Sawgrass is open.
TPC Sawgrass unveiled the expanded and upgraded PGA Tour Performance Center this week.
The 7,680 square foot facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to break down a clients swing and measure club speed, ball trajectory and many other facets of a player’s golf game.
The addition of a second story, two new hitting bays and a new training and fitness room are among the enhancements to the PGA TOUR’s Performance Center at TPC Sawgrass that instructors of the facility unveiled to media last week. The performance center reopened to the public in late May after being closed since May 2016 for renovations.
The staff at the PGA Tour Performance Center can’t guarantee they’ll get every student hitting like a Tour pro.
But they can guarantee the same tools, service, resources and attention that the best players in the world receive when they stop by to hone their games or tweak their equipment.
The new Performance Center, housed in its 15,000-square foot building nestled in the corner of the TPC Sawgrass practice range, became operational a week after the final round of The Players Championship.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Gone are the days of hitting iron after iron, driver after driver to find the one that “feels” right. Technology has changed all of that. Measuring every aspect of your golf swing and the result is an every day occurrence in today’s game. The new TPC Performance Center at Sawgrass is tying all aspects of the game together in one place and giving players a chance to be the best player they can be. It’s a big step from an hour on the range hitting 20 different drivers.
Renowned golf instructor Todd Anderson, the 2010 PGA Teacher of the Year, has been named Director of the expanded and upgraded PGA TOUR Performance Center at TPC Sawgrass, the home of the Players Championship being played this week 5/9-14.
Todd Anderson could have easily retired at Sea Island Resort, where he spent nearly 14 years as director of instruction at the Sea Island Golf Performance Center.
